ALEJANDRO ESCUER

Flutes and woodwinds

Alejandro Escuer is a solo flutist, composer and multidisciplinary artist who has positioned the contemporary music of his country in Mexico and abroad through an intense teaching and concert work, recording more than 25 CDs (two with Latin Grammy nomination), founding the Academy of Contemporary Music at UNAM and of course through hundreds of concerts as musical ambassador of Mexico in Japan, China, Spain, Poland, England, France, Germany, Canada, Colombia, Venezuela and especially in the United States. He is the creator and artistic director of ONIX Ensamble, a Mexican group specialized in the interpretation of contemporary music with more than 200 works dedicated and premiered throughout his 25 years of career. 

In the year 2000 he co-founded the multidisciplinary project LUMINICO for solo flute, real-time video and electroacoustic music. Escuer has generated a whole new repertoire for his instrument that did not exist before, premiering more than 250 works dedicated to him for solo flute, flute with electronics, with piano, with guitar, with ensemble, with percussions including eight concertos for flute and orchestra dedicated to him with the main orchestras of the country. Among the awards and recognitions he has received are: The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures Award 2012, Creador Escénico con Trayectoria 2010-13 (FONCA), Coinversiones Projects, three grants as a performer, including. Rockefeller Foundation-Bancomer-FONCA, multiple winner of the Mexico en Escena award, he also received a scholarship from the Fulbright García Robles 2008 for the composition of four works during a postdoctoral stay at Columbia University and Indiana University, in addition to the first prize. from Independent Music Awards  for best album of contemporary classical music 2014. Escuer has won all of his competitive examinations as a tenured professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) Faculty of Music and gives courses and lectures around the world. As a composer, Escuer has excelled in the creation of electroacoustic works and has been a member of the National System of Art Creators (SNCA). Alejandro Escuer completed his doctoral studies at New York University where he obtained P.h. D. Doctor of Philosophy in Music majoring in interpretation (flute), composition and musical improvisation.. He completed his master's studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam, Holland: Uitvoerend Musicus. He also completed his undergraduate studies at the National Conservatory of Music.

Jorge Rodrigo Sigal Sefchovich (Mexico City - 1971) is a composer and cultural manager, as well as a full time professor at the National School of Higher Education, Morelia of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he is coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Music and Artistic Technology (www.enesmorelia.orgHe is interested in working with new technologies, especially in the field of electroacoustic music. Since 2006 he is the director and founder of the Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras. CMMAS from where she coordinates various initiatives of creation, education, research and cultural management related to sound and music. He obtained a PhD from City University of London and a post-doctorate at UNAM, as well as a diploma in cultural management from UAM-BID and has continued his studies and creative projects with various grants and support from institutions such as FONCA (member of SNCA 2011-18) and the DeVos Foundation for cultural management, among others. He is a researcher candidate of the National System of Researchers of Conacyt and has been part of the Lumínico project for more than 20 years.festival director Visiones Sonoras and editor of the magazine Ideas Sónicas.
